One could actually wonder,  how do whatsapp make money?

While how whatsapp generate revenue (if any at all) back in those days remains Unknown.

Whatsapp on Wednesday announced to start charging big businesses using it's platform (whatsapp) - like Uber Technologies,  for sending some specific type of message on its platform.

And up to 20 of such company are on the payment list now.

With WhatsApp Business API , large and medium businesses are allowed to connect with roughly 1.5 billion customers using whatsapp.

Features of WhatsApp Business API

WhatApp business API will be able to support these actions as put by whatsapp:

  • Request helpful information: When you need a shipping confirmation or boarding pass, you can give your mobile number to a business on their website, on their app, or in their store to send you information on WhatsApp.

  • Start a conversation: You may see a click-to-chat button on a website or Facebook ad to quickly message a business.

  • Get support: Some businesses may provide real-time support on WhatsApp to answer questions about their products or help you resolve an issue.

What Kind Of Service/Message Will Business Be Charged For?

As have mentioned earlier business will pay for certain messages.

While these messages aren't  directly mentioned.

Speculations are that business will pay to deliver messages of "Shipping information" and (possibly) related messages.

Honestly you shouldn't expect a service managed by facebook without it generating something into the pulse.

Especially at a time when their revenue declined - one looking from this angle could say this could be part of what push facebook to start generating revenue from WhatsApp.

And there have also been expectations that Facebook could at any time start displaying ads in your status.

Yeah, your WhatsApp status...

People will start seeing ads on it.

Something WhatsApp Co-founder, Juan Khoum, had resisted, but one man power isn't enough.
