Waooh, what does it feel like to have free data all day long?

It could seem impossible in Nigeria but now we are feeling the breeze blowing from the starting point.

Google, in it's second Google For Nigeria event (26th July, 2018) launches free Wi-Fi - expected to be launched in 200 locations across Nigeria.

“Google Station will be rolling out in 200 locations in five cities across Nigeria by the end of 2019, bringing Wi-Fi to millions of people,” as from Google's Nigeria Director, Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor.

She also claim that the service is live in Nigeria, in some places like, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Computer Village, Ikeja City Mall etc.

Who Google Partner With

Google's Nigeria Director said that they launched the Google Station with one of the Nigeria Largest fibre network providers, 21st Century.

Mrs. Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor, through her words reveals that Google is open for partnership with the telecoms operators and ISPs.

Other Interesting Announcement At The Google For Nigeria Event

Google also announced the update of it's "Go" initiative.

The Goproduct suite which includes "Google Go", " YouTube Go", "Android Go" etc.

This is aimed at giving people with low bandwidth connection and RAM devices the best possible Google experience.

Although it was created some years ago (specifically in 2009) by Robert Griesemer, Rob Pike and Ken Thompson, new features like "Google Go" have been added.

If you download this App it gives really fast browsing experience.

It provides easy access to many website and application with significant speed.

So back to our discussion, google said that the "Google Go" will soon be able to read Web pages aloud and also highlight the words that are been read out.

Google also, according to channels TV lists some of its achievements both in Nigeria and Africa, which include:

1. Training of over 2.5 million people (out of 10 million it promised) under its Digital Skills programme.

2. Training of 9,000 Africans in mobile app development.

This is really a welcome improvement for Nigerians...

Am thinking that President Yemi Osinbanjo's visit to Silicon Valley could have led to this, or what do you think?.

But what is bordering me is that Nigerians are known for the habit of misusing opportunities.

I hope we exploit this to improve our country and not to cause more chaos there from.
